City shares study results with Bay Ridge residents

The City met with residents of Bay Ridge subdivision Thursda, March 23 in the Civic Center to present a draft of the flooding and draining study recently conducted by LJA Engineering.  Dr. John Ground, representing LJA, explained several options to the group, and answered questions from flood victims.  City Manager John Baumgartner also fielded questions from the more than 120 Bay Ridge residents.  Several local elected officials from the area also attended, including Mayor Pat Hallisey, Council members Greg Gripon, Hank Dugie and Larry Millican, and County Commissioners Ken Clark and Darrell Apffel.

The goal of the meeting was to share the results of the engineering study with the Bay Ridge community and to elicit input from the homeowners on what they hope to see from the City in the short and long-term.  Several of the residents expressed concerns about the looming hurricane season and asked for more communication from the City on the schedule of drainage projects as it is developed.  Councilman Hank Dugie pledged to have a policy for short-term projects before council within weeks.

“The input from the citizens will be crucial moving forward, as we continue with drainage studies in other neighborhoods across the City.  Knowing what matters most to our citizens is truly the driving factor on how we focus City resources and invest the public’s tax dollars.  The meeting tonight provided valuable insight from the Harvey victims living in Bay Ridge; we heard first-hand from the people who lived through the flood” said Mr. Baumgartner.

The next neighborhood meeting will be Wednesday, March 28, at 6:00 p.m. in the Civic Center with residents of The Oaks of Clear Creek.
